At Alemar Farm, Race 2 Roam provides a rescue facility, care for abandoned thoroughbreds. Race 2 Roam is Offering Fields of Health and Happiness, a sanctuary where horses are roaming for life.
What We Do

Race 2 Roam is a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit organization established in 2016, in West Virginia. We are a rescue facility and ​a ​sanctuary. Our farm in Shenandoah Junction, Alemar, welcomes retired or injured horses and protects them from an uncertain future. The Race 2 Roam mission is to provide aftercare, education​ and ​adoption services to at-risk thoroughbreds.
Who We Are
Cristina Vena, Board Chair is enthusiastic about thoroughbred aftercare, rehabilitation, and retraining. Horses race for just a few years, but can live well into their twenties. We all should work hard to make sure that ex-racehorses find good homes after their racing careers. Some may find new jobs; some are meant to just roam. Horses are as important when they retire as they are when they are foaled, we can’t forget that we should be responsible for their well-being all through their lives.
Cristina Vena​, Board Chair​, love for thoroughbred racing​,​ witnessing horses getting injured or abandoned because too old to race, she decided to create a rescue facility and a sanctuary.

Three women, horse lovers, joined her cause and together serve the non-profit, Race 2 Roam, to raise awareness and funding to support 50 retired thoroughbreds roaming on “Alemar Farm”, 114 acres, in West Virginia.

Join the Cause
•ADOPT- We rescue ​and give temporarily care ​to thoroughbred with the goal of placing them in permanent ownership/​adoption and make sure the new place ​ cover​s hay, feed​, ​farrier and basic veterinary care​ expenses​.
•SPONSOR- To sustain our Sanctuary​ to provide lifetime care for ​at-risk ​thoroughbred​ ​in need​ (injured, abandoned or abused).
•VOLUNTEER- Give your time at Alemar Farm to Race 2 Roam for the love of horses.
